Yeohead & Castleton Parish Council Keeping you informed ... -> Oborne Fete 2006 |
Oborne Fete 2006Perfect weather - not too hot, but dry. Lots of hectic activity in the hours before the fete opened, marked by much generosity by many people in the village, especially of their time in setting up the stalls and running them. Special thanks to Robin Welsh for another of his spectacular plant arrangements donated as a raffle prize; to Jon & Jenny at the Grange Hotel for the beautiful huge Bakewell tart and the extraordinarily generous gift of bottles of wine for prizes; to Hunt's Foods, Sherborne, for the wonderful looking pavlova; and to Greg & Jenny Kellaway for the donations of a joint of beef, and vouchers for meat and for a free entry for a family to this year's Maize Maze (see the Crackmore Farm website for more details a bit later in the year.) Again, thanks to lots of other people, too many to pick out individually, for delving so deeply into their pockets for prizes and donations, and for buying so generously on the day. Thanks also to Sir Robert Corbett, unable to be with us this year, for an unexpected cheque that has helped to boost the income of this year's event to about £1100. This will be shared between the Village Hall, St Cuthbert's PCC, and the Oborne Playing Field Equipment Association as usual. Finally, everybody appreciated the organisation of Karen Perryman, Jenny Kellaway and Christine Fraser who arranged it so that everything ran smoothly throughout the afternoon and evening, from the fete, to the celebrated Oborne Duck Race (our ducks get well used in this village!), and the ever popular evening barbecue (thanks to Ian Crawford-Smith, Bob Twiggins and their industrious team), at which Greg Kellaway's splendid tractor train (see picture!) made its appearance. |
