Clerk reported on Sherborne
Town Council’s support in principle to purchasing a portable Speed Indicator
Device and making it available for Oborne and other roads in our parishes at
an appropriate cost. |

Clerk to attend two meetings
on matters related to climate change & global warming and report back on
significant developments etc. |

The meeting was adjourned
for members to receive reports and ask questions of representatives of
Dorset County Council and West Dorset District Council.
The matters raised
included:
Cllr Gould reported on the below average increase in the council tax
precept, and on the improvements shown in the Performance Indicators. The
County Council and the District Council are using the “Pathfinder” option to
improve effectiveness and to maintain the current structure of local
government in Dorset – awaiting the Government’s decision on the plans. |

Proposal by Cllr Mrs Oliver
on behalf of Poyntington Village Hall Committee:
“The £500 allocated
in the budget for 2007-08 to the Poyntington Play area be temporarily
assigned to the Poyntington Village Hall Committee on the understanding that
it would be re-allocated to the Play area when the various grant requests
have come to fruition.” Council approved this proposal unanimously. |

Council received a copy of a
letter from a resident of Oborne to County Trees Officer about possible
dangerous trees on A30 in Oborne. Council decided to write to Kevin Cheleda
at DCC Highways Dept. to seek an early inspection of the site and of the
state of the trees. |

Council received a written
report and a very informative oral presentation from Mr J Hart, ROWLO for
Castleton, on site visits to Castleton footpaths. Mr Hart was thanked for
his work on the report and on what he is doing about the County Council’s
Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
The clerk will write to Mr
Cheleda at DCC re the dangerous condition of the top part of Pub Lane in
Poyntington for horse riders, but requesting that any restoration work
retains the obstacles to motorised vehicular use. The issue is maintaining
the balance between the interests of the pedestrian users and the safety of
horse riders. |
